Our Facility
Daehling Farms is one of northern California’s largest thoroughbred farms conveniently located 15 miles south of Sacramento near Elk Grove, California. The thoroughbred farm sprawls over 280 acres, with 200 acres dedicated to lush, irrigated pastures. Our pastures are irrigated every seven days and are fertilized, mowed and maintained specifically for horses.
At Daehling Farms, our focus is to provide a solid foundation to raise a great racehorse. This requires space, pasture and an overall setting that will allow a horse to mature the way a horse should. Some of our home breds have included Grade 3 winner Fast Buck and multiple stakes winner Fast and Foxy who earned over $500,000. All horses are supplemented with a grain ration developed by an equine nutritionist to ensure proper nutrition and protein. Probiotics are received on a daily through the grain ration.
Because we are blessed with the ability to keep horses on lush irrigated pasture during the spring, summer and fall, we are also able to better manage our feed costs to keep our rates lower than average. Lower rates do not translate to a reduced level of care or nutrition, but rather reflects our desire for our customers to better succeed financially. During rainy weather, horses are housed in large safe paddocks that have firm footing. Horses are fed alfalfa twice daily in addition to their daily grain ration.
In addition to pasture boarding, Daehling Farms also offers a significant number of large stalls and stalls with paddocks for layups. We are also one of northern California’s few farms that offer starting and training. Our facility includes an all-weather 3/8-mile track, covered round pen, eurociser and most importantly dedicated training staff that have been with our operation for years. We work to ensure stability and consistency for the horses we start and prepare for the race track; with the focus on meeting the needs of both our owners and trainers.
